Maryland Department of Labor Announces New Appointments

Chief of Staff and Director of Strategic Partnerships Named

BALTIMORE (July 24, 2019) – Incoming Maryland Department of Labor Secretary Tiffany Robinson today announced the appointments of Sarah Beardsley as Chief of Staff and Kaitlin Marsden as Director of Strategic Partnerships.

Sarah Beardsley comes to the department from Maryland’s Opioid Operational Command Center, where she served as the Director of Community Affairs. Beardsley helped coordinate Maryland’s response to the opioid crisis by facilitating collaboration between state agencies, local jurisdictions, and community partners.

Prior to joining the Hogan Administration, Beardsley spent four years in Anne Arundel County Government as the Executive Assistant for County Executive Steve Schuh. She is a graduate of Salisbury University and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.

In addition, Kaitlin Marsden has been named the new Director of Strategic Partnerships. Marsden has spent the last three years working in the Office of the Governor as the Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff. She played an integral role in researching, drafting, and implementing policies to help change Maryland for the better.

Prior to joining Governor Larry Hogan’s office in 2016, Marsden served as an Administrative Assistant at the Maryland Department of Information Technology. She is a graduate of Lycoming College and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.

Beardsley succeeds Kimberly Burns, who served as the Department of Labor’s Chief of Staff since her appointment in 2015. Burns was appointed by Governor Hogan to serve on the Department of Labor's Board of Appeals in early July and will begin her new position July 31.

“I would like to welcome Sarah and Kaitlin to the Department of Labor. Both are strong leaders who will bring a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to our team. I would also like to thank Kim Burns for her steadfast dedication to the Department of Labor during this administration and congratulate her on her Governor’s appointment to the Board of Appeals. I look forward to beginning my new role as Secretary of Labor on July 31st and working together as a department to serve the people of Maryland,” said incoming Secretary Robinson.
