- Determine whether the services you need require the service of a CPA or if you prefer that a CPA do the work.
- Ask the CPA for identification, including the state in which the CPA is licensed. CPAs, under certain circumstances, do not have to have a license issued by the Maryland Board of Public Accountancy.
- If the CPA indicates licensure in Maryland, confirm his or her license status by checking the Public Query.
- If the CPA indicates licensure in another state, confirm his or her license on the national database by searching CPAVerify:
