Audits and CE Required for Reinstatement of a License/Certificate - Real Estate Appraisers, Appraisal Management Companies and Home Inspectors

Audits for real estate appraisers

Each license renewal application is subject to audit by the Commission. Failure to respond to or comply with an audit may result in disciplinary action. It is the responsibility of each licensee to fulfill the continuing education requirements and to be able to document to the Commission's satisfaction such fulfillment. A licensee must complete a minimum of 42 hours of continuing education before renewing a license. Acceptable continuing education hours must be taken between the effective date of the license being renewed and the date on which the applicant certifies to having completed the prescribed continuing education requirements.

Audits for home inspectors

Each license renewal application is subject to audit by the Commission. Failure to respond to or comply with an audit may result in disciplinary action. It is the responsibility of each licensee to fulfill the continuing education requirements and to be able to document to the Commission's satisfaction such fulfillment. A home inspector must complete a minimum of 30 hours of continuing professional competency education before renewing a license. Acceptable continuing education hours must be taken between the effective date of the license being renewed and the date on which the applicant certifies to having completed the prescribed continuing education requirements.

Reinstatement of an Expired Real Estate Appraiser License or Certificate

A real estate appraiser who fails to renew his or her license/certificate during its regular term may reinstate the license/certificate if the applicant: (1) meets all continuing education and filing requirements; and (2) pays the Commission a reinstatement fee of $75 in addition to the renewal fee required.

Prior to reinstatement of a license/certificate, the licensee must complete all required continuing education hours that would have been required if the credential holder was in an active status. Applicants for reinstatement owe 42 hours of continuing education on the expiration date of the license and an additional 14 hours of continuing education for every year thereafter. The required hours must also include the most recent edition of the seven-hour National USPAP Update Course or its AQB-approved equivalent.

Appraisers are required to complete continuing education for a partial year in a continuing education cycle as follows:

For continuing education cycle periods of 185 days or more, 14 hours of continuing education is required.
For continuing education cycle periods of less than 185 days, no hours of continuing education are required.

Trainees

Beginning with the first full renewal cycle after July 1, 2013, real estate appraiser trainees are required to demonstrate continuing education under the same requirements as the licensed and certified levels. The Commission does not charge late fees to real estate appraiser trainees.

Reinstatement of an Expired Home Inspector License

The Commission will reinstate the license of a home inspector who has failed to renew a license for any reason if the individual applies to the Commission for reinstatement within five years after the license expires, meets the renewal requirements and pays to the Commission a reinstatement fee set by the Commission. The Commission may not reinstate the license of a home inspector who for any reason fails to apply for reinstatement within five years after the license has expired.
