Other Electrical Licenses in Maryland - Electricians
Beginning July 1, 2021, the board will accept applications for apprentice and journeyperson licenses, in addition to issuing master electrician licenses. Prior to July 1, 2021, the board only issued one license, a master electrician’s license, and the actual performance license to perform electrical work was issued by each of the local jurisdictions in Maryland. After July 1, 2021, the jurisdictions that previously issued apprentice, journeyperson and master licenses will begin issuing apprentice, journeyperson and master registrations, not licenses, and the State license will serve as the performance license.
Many local jurisdictions issue additional categories of electrical licenses. All of these licenses are LESSER than a master electrician. For example, some jurisdictions may issue a "limited electrician," or a "low voltage" license. To obtain a lesser license, please contact the local jurisdiction where you anticipate working.
