SEAL REQUIREMENTSEach professional land surveyor may obtain a seal for use as required under § 15-502 of this subtitle. (b) Design. -- The seal shall: (1) be of a design determined by the Board; and (2) include: (i) the legend: 1. "professional land surveyor"; or 2. "licensed property line surveyor"; and the name of the licensee who holds the seal.
ENDORSEMENT OF DOCUMENTS
Before a professional land surveyor or licensed property line surveyor issues to a client or submits to a public authority any plan, plat, report, or specification, the professional land surveyor or licensed property line surveyor who prepared the document shall endorse on the document the licensee's: (1) name; and (2) seal or a facsimile of the seal. (b) Acceptance of documents by public authorities. -- A public authority may not accept any surveying plan, plat, report, or specification unless the document is endorsed as required under subsection (a) of this section.
Business Practices I. When signing and sealing surveying documents, a licensee shall indicate the license expiration date on the documents before submitting them in accordance with requirements set forth in Business Occupations and Professions Article, §15502(a), Annotated Code of Maryland. J. Types of Signatures. (1) A surveyor may sign surveying documents by one of the following methods: (a) A handwritten signature in permanent ink containing the name of the person who applied it; or (b) For electronic or digital documents, an electronic authentication process attached to or logically associated with the document. (2) A digital signature described in this section shall satisfy the following criteria: (a) It must contain identification unique to a licensee using it; (b) It must be under the exclusive control of the licensee using it; (c) It must be independently verifiable, and (d) It must be attached to an electronic document to which it is applied in such a manner that invalidates any modification of data to the document.
TITLEBLOCK RULES
A professional Land Surveyor is required to include the following additional certification when signing and sealing plans, specifications, drawings, reports, or other documents:
"Professional Certification. I hereby certify that these documents were prepared or approved by me and that I am a duly licensed professional surveyor under the laws of the State of Maryland, License No. , Expiration Date:"
The titleblock, certification, seal, and signature shall appear close to each other.
