The EPA’s Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule - Home Improvement Commission
Effective April 22, 2010, professionals and firms involved in renovation, repair, painting or remodeling work that disturbs interior or exterior painted surfaces must comply with the EPA's Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Rule. The Rule applies only if the disturbed surfaces are six square feet or more of interior painted surface or 20 square feet of exterior painted surface. Also, the Rule covers only residential dwellings (including multi-unit and public housing) or child-occupied facilities built before 1978.
Professionals who offer services as described in the Rule must receive training, obtain certification, provide the required EPA Pamphlet Renovate Right, prior to the start of any project, maintain compliance records and adhere to lead-safe work practices.
