Maryland Labor Secretary Announces Thomas J. Meighen as Commissioner of the Division of Labor and Industry
ANNAPOLIS, MD (May 27, 2015) – Under the leadership of Governor Larry Hogan, Secretary Kelly M. Schulz today announced Thomas J. Meighen as the new Commissioner of the Division of Labor and Industry at the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR). Mr. Meighen brings more than 25 years of human resources, risk and safety management and occupational health experience to the position.
"Tom Meighen is a highly qualified leader who brings a balanced, common-sense approach to labor management along with experience in developing and managing safety programs in both the public and private sectors," said Governor Larry Hogan. “I have every confidence that his innovative ideas will be an asset as we work together to make Maryland more business friendly.”
Since 2007, Mr. Meighen worked as the Director of Risk Management and Human Resources for the Kirlin Group where he implemented policy and provided oversight for the safety, risk management and human resources processes for a 1,400 employee firm. Prior to that, he served as the Vice President of Stromberg Metal Works where he implemented safety and risk management programs. Mr. Meighen has a top-notch background in local pension, health and apprenticeship programs.
Mr. Meighen has a bachelor’s degree in safety management from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Chesapeake Regional Safety Council. He is also a founding member of the American Subcontractors Association of Metropolitan Washington's Safety Committee and past president of the Washington Metropolitan Area Construction Safety Association.
