Revised: Maryland Gained 22,200 Jobs and Unemployment Rate Decreased to 6.0% in July

State Has Gained 56,800 Jobs in 2021

BALTIMORE (August 20, 2021) – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released state jobs and unemployment data today. According to the preliminary survey data, Maryland gained 22,200 jobs and the unemployment rate decreased to 6.0% in July. Since the beginning of 2021, Maryland has gained a total of 56,800 jobs.

The Professional and Business Services sector experienced the most growth with an increase of 5,700 jobs from the Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services (2,900), Administrative and Support and Waste Management and Remediation Services (2,700), and Management of Companies and Enterprises (100) subsectors.

Other sectors that experienced growth include: Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (2,300); Leisure and Hospitality (1,900); Manufacturing (1,800); Financial Activities (1,200); and Mining, Logging, and Construction (500).

Sectors that experienced decline last month include: Education and Health Services (5,700); Other Services (600); and Information (300).
