The Contributions Division handles several aspects of the unemployment insurance (UI) process for employers, including contribution payments, benefit charges, experience rates, and more. In addition, the Contributions Division monitors the Maryland Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund. Employer contributions (also called UI taxes) are deposited into the trust fund, which is used to pay temporary UI benefits to eligible claimants.

Virtual Assistant
You can use the Virtual Assistant to receive immediate, automated answers to common inquiries or to chat with an agent. The Virtual Assistant is available 24/7. However, the chat feature is available from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
To use the Virtual Assistant, select the blue “Chat with us” button at the bottom right of the Maryland Division of Unemployment Insurance homepage. To use the chat feature, access the Virtual Assistant and type "speak with an agent.”

Register for a Maryland Unemployment Insurance Employer Account
Employers may register for an unemployment insurance account by:
- going to the BEACON employer login webpage, selecting “Register for an Account,” and following the prompts; or,
- filing a Combined RegistrationApplication (CRA) online through the Comptroller of Maryland website. Employers should submit a CRA no later than 20 days after the first day of business.
Employers may obtain the specifications for submitting quarterly Contribution/Employment Reports via FTP online .
